Soft-Tex Opens Facility In Sugar Land | Fort Bend Economic Development Council

One of the country’s major international pillow manufacturers has opened its second U.S. manufacturing facility in Sugar Land, the first step in a process that will eventually bring some 150 jobs to Fort Bend County, according to the company.

New York-based Soft-Tex International last week celebrated the grand opening of a new 170,000-square foot manufacturing facility at 1407 Gillingham Lane. The company is leasing the building, said Brooke Ezell, a spokesperson for the event.

“We’re an East Coast distributor, so we needed something more centrally located. We do some importing, so being near the Port of Houston made sense. This is definitely a shipping and distributing mecca.”
Taylor Jones, vice president of marketing and e-commerce for the company.

Sugar Land didn’t offer the company any incentives to move to town, Ezell said. And because the warehouse is leased, the company couldn’t share information on financial numbers for the facility.

Over the rest of the year, Soft-Tex plans to add more production lines to the Sugar Land facility, Jones said. Company officials hope to add all 150 jobs by the end of 2021, Jones said.

Soft-Tex opened the facility in Sugar Land as part of an effort to shift production back to domestic sources, according to the company.

The facility will run warehousing and distribution operations with three-day ground service to warehouses and other shipments, according to an article in Furniture Today.
