Missouri City Green has been named a Gold Star Affiliate by Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB), a statewide grassroots environmental and community improvement non-profit organization.

The designation places Missouri City Green among 86 affiliates of the 300, which have received the distinction.

“Missouri City Green has been Missouri City’s Keep Texas Beautiful affiliate since 2012, and a Gold Star affiliate since 2015,” said Missouri City Green Board President Angie Wierzbicki.

The Gold Star recognition is the highest status a community affiliate can achieve, which represents exceptional community improvement efforts. To achieve gold star status, as a community affiliate Missouri City Green has remained in good standing, which includes submitting organizational reports, attending training, and annually participating in a KTB-endorsed activity. Missouri City Green is credited with successfully implementing programs to clean up litter, reduce and recycle waste, educate local citizens, and beautify and enhance the local community.

This past year, Missouri City Green was involved in an electronic recycling event, a trash off, a worm composting project, and numerous other activities.

Founded in 1967, KTB’s affiliates, which reach 17 million Texans annually, altogether engaged 41,550 volunteers in 2021 with the collection of waste and recyclables from Texas roadways, trails, and waterways.

KTB will formally recognize Missouri City Green among its Gold Star communities during its upcoming 55th Annual Conference next month.

“Our affiliates are the backbone of our organization. We are proud to honor those going above and beyond to keep their communities clean and beautiful,” said Suzanne Kho, KTB Executive Director.

Through its Keep Texas Recycling program, KTB also provides assistance and education to support recycling in rural and underserved communities.

Summing up Missouri City Green’s targeted intention, Wierzbicki said, “We are proud to love where we live,” expressly implying the organization’s commitment to having a positive impact on the environment.
