Fort Bend County is leading the way in access to exceptional healthcare and providing the workforce to fill those critical jobs.
Fort Bend is home to over 850,000 residents and that number is growing exponentially. Woods and Poole estimate the county will exceed 1 million residents by 2027 and the county's healthcare footprint has expanded to support that growth. Access to a wide variety of experienced medical professionals, innovative treatments and cutting-edge biotechnology ensures residents have access to quality care within their community.
Not only is Fort Bend 30 minutes from the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world, but the county is also home to award-winning hospitals, clinics, and medical centers. The magnet-designated Memorial Hermann Sugar Land and Houston Methodist Sugar Land, collectively announced over $437 million investments in expansion projects to accommodate the county’s growth. These hospitals sit in the heart of the county along with Texas Children's Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital and others.
Primary healthcare facilities have also expanded in bounds across the county, to support all segments of one of the fastest-growing communities in the nation. Kelsey-Seybold Clinics, the OakBend Medical Center, and others have multiple locations across Fort Bend. AccessHealth, a community-based clinic for underserved populations, continues to expand to ensure all Fort Bend residents can access quality wellness and healthcare.
Fort Bend community, government, and business leaders understand that innovation and excellence in healthcare enhance the quality of life for all residents. Our local healthcare centers and hospitals are dedicated to providing the latest in technological advances in medicine including robotic and minimally invasive procedures, winning awards and paving the way as leaders in the healthcare industry. Supporting that effort, the University of Houston at Sugar Land, along with Houston Community College and Wharton County Junior College, all offer healthcare professional training programs and degrees, feeding directly into the workforce pipeline.
The University of Houston holds the 3rd Best Nursing Program in the state out of 115 at its Sugar Land Campus. The program has also maintained a 100% pass rate for nursing students taking the NCLEX-RN, and Nurse Practitioner National Certification since 2015 and has seen a 100% employment rate for graduates since 2020.
