Fort Bend ISD selected for Microsoft program with focus on STEM education | Fort Bend Economic Development Council

Fort Bend ISD has been selected to join the 2020-21 Incubator Path for Microsoft’s Showcase School Program, according to an Oct. 20 district press release.
Upon successful completion of the program, FBISD would be able to open a science, technology, engineering and mathematics magnet school in the district.
“Fort Bend ISD is thrilled to partner with Microsoft as part of the Incubator Path of the Showcase School Program, as this program aligns perfectly with our board-adopted Profile of a Graduate,” FBISD Board President Jason Burdine said in the release. "We look forward to our partnership to discover and implement innovative ways to design our spaces and equip our students with the proper tools needed for success inside and outside of the classroom.”
According to the release, FDISD applied to the program with a vision of K-20 education that would initially serve 1,2000 students in a program of choice. Throughout the multiyear program, the district will work to build “amazing new places to learn,” the release said.
“Microsoft Showcase Schools are shining examples of those applying purpose-driven innovation in a variety of ways to build connection, motivate students and to create community in and out of school,” said Anthony Salcito, vice president of worldwide education at Microsoft, in the release. “These schools are truly transforming learning and providing more personalized education to students, empowering them to achieve more.”
